Happy New Year!

Did you know that the New Year comes twice a year?  This is not a new phenomenon but it’s one of the best kept secrets.

The new year doesn’t have to come once a year.  With the changing season of summer into fall, it’s a wonderful opportunity to begin another new year new you.  Winter, spring and summer have done their job by nurturing and stretching our bodies with warmth, exercise and relaxing vacations.  But when nature presents us with an artist color palette and cool breezes, it’s time to start another new year of growth, change and opportunity.

The signs of fall are obvious.  Children going back to school, the smell of crayons and fresh notepads, leaves changing, hayrides, and pumpkin gathering to name a few.   As we settle into new routines from raking leaves to football and soccer games, we can reflect on the beauty of nature but also how far we have come over the last 9 months.

Here are a few intriguing questions to guide your direction in planting fall seeds for change.

Have I actively planned goals for personal, career, financial and social areas of my life?

Goal planning is key to achieve what you want out of this one time go around called life.  From small personal goals such as “going to the bank” to larger goals such as a career change, planning is necessary to feel accomplished and in control of your own destiny.  Goal planning is not a large awesome task reserve for highly educated people.  It’s for everyone at any time in your life.  From age 10 through 100, it’s never too late to plant your feet firmly in the direction of the future that you have designed.

Are there relationships that need mending that I have control over the outcome?

Have you forgiven those who have hurt you deeply whether they deserve it or not or are you carrying special feelings regarding the relationship?   More times than not, the other person has no idea the degree of which you have been hurt. So who is the one that is truly suffering…you.  It may be time to have a heart to heart with yourself and determine “is this really worth it”.  Many a person’s health and future have been sacrificed due to relationships that were not properly mended.  Take the higher ground and put your self on the plus side of life by taking control of the mending process.  There are many solutions to get what you both want and need emotionally.

Are my personal, career and spiritual life areas in balance
to what’s important to me?

Balance, that eluding place we all want to aspire in life.  Are we every truly balanced in all areas of our life?  The answer is no.  Day to day our lives change with different experience, needs, wants and desires.  We need to find the middle ground between where we want to go verses what is happening today that stops us from achieving an almost balanced life.  This is accomplished by determining personal standards of success as well as setting boundaries and priorities.  Understand that you can create the life you want but not without determining what is important and living by those values.

Am I living to the beat of my core values?

Core values are positions that you take in life. Those that mean the most to you and make you angry when violated.  We each carry with us a set of core values which is similar to an internal personal guide.  When any of your core values are challenged, it brings out the worst in you because someone is challenging your core value system.  You need to determine “what are my core values”?   If your personal life and career centers around those core values, you can expect to be happy and fulfilled.  If there is something that rubs one or more of you core values the wrong way, you feel anxiety and less fulfilled.  Living to the beat of your core value system will open up an array of opportunities as well as challenges. Would you rather have it any other way?

As the leaves begin to fall from the trees and we gather haystacks and mums for fall decoration, begin to harvest your own direction for growth.  With the cool, sunny and crisp days, it’s a great time to reflect, rejuvenate and regain the control of your own destiny.  A new year begins the moment you determine areas of change.  Chart your course.  Chart your destiny.  Do it for you, today!
